Do you know what you want to be when you grow up?

Now that school started and you are becoming accommodated with the new teachers, making new friends and learning new things, you may not think about the start of your career yet. Why would you?

Depending on what you want to become, or even if you don’t know yet what that is, it is very important to start thinking about your network. Sometimes is who knows you that can give you that big break in your career.

Some speakers at our conference last year (see videos here)  have stated that they did not know what they wanted to be when they grew up and that’s ok because they eventually found their calling and have succeeded anyways. Some of them did not even pursue a STEM education yet ended up working in STEM and encouraged everyone to think about that because STEM is such an important skill to have! One particular speaker is also a rock band lead singer (how cool is that!!!!).

This year, for the 2nd annual Candian Women in STEM conference, we are bringing diverse speakers again to discuss important topics such as Innovation in Technology, LGBTQA+ in STEM, STEM Communication, Financial Literacy (one of my favourite topics) and, best of all, there will be 2 Speed Networking sessions where you will have the opportunity to meet professionals who can become your mentors and guide you in the direction where you need to be.

Did you know: having a mentor will give you a 130% more chances of holding a leadership position later on in life?   More

Breaking Down Barriers: Unleashing the Power of Inclusion for Women in STEM

Is there someone who looks like me that in STEM?

What are the opportunities in STEM fields and how can I get there, too?

These simple yet significant questions were asked numerous times by the young women who showed interest yet felt out of place when it comes to learning more about STEM. Many of these young women with curious minds come from communities where no ones expects them to succeed, nevermind showing interest in learning.

Knowing that there is a wide population formed of diverse young people who are eager to learn, I quickly learned that diversity exists yet not everyone is included in the conversation.

With the Fourth Industrial Revolution here, which is more digital than ever, we know that what we learned 20 years ago is not necessarily relevant today and, in order to keep up with today’s innovative job market, one has to be exposed to learning that is pioneering and ground-breaking as early as possible.  More

(Toronto, ON) – hEr VOLUTION is proud to announce Alexio™ Corporation, as a new Bronze Sponsor for the 2nd annual Canadian Women in STEM Conference; Breaking Down Barriers: Unleashing the Power of Inclusion.

Headquartered in Markham, Ontario, the Alexio™ Corporation team includes Anne Genge, CEO, a Certified Information Privacy Professional with a specialization in dentistry. She also holds certifications for HIPAA Security and PCI Compliance. With over 20 years of experience, Anne knows the challenges healthcare providers face with technology. She and her team work with dental and medical professionals across Canada to minimize data risk and maximize patient care.

“ I was lucky. I was raised to believe I could do anything. My mother was a warrior in education and equality, and at a young age my father put a hammer in my hand and taught me to drive a farm tractor.

Then something happened. As I entered the workforce in my early 20’s that I came up against the reality that the rest of the world wasn’t always going to appreciate or support my competencies, because I was a woman.

Faced with continued roadblocks and cynicism I endured and succeeded in the technology sector because of the deep roots of strength planted in me at a young age.

When we as women achieve success in non-traditional industries, we need to pass on the tools. I am grateful to be a small part of the mission of hEr VOLUTION in providing so many great opportunities and support for our younger female generation.” says Anne Genge, CEO of Alexio™ Corporation.

I joined STEMing UP because I wanted to join something that could challenge me as well as build my portfolio. STEMing UP is perfect as it does both of these things for me. I also really like the idea of working with other girls who are interested in STEM and being able to meet industry professionals.
