We are just over one week away from Giving Tuesday and we are so excited with the #Unselfie posts in support of hEr VOLUTION so far! Don’t stop now and keep your social media posts going!

Gira, current STEMing UP student and Youth Committee Member at hEr VOLUTION believes that she can pay forward the impact that she received from hEr VOLUTION by volunteering.
Cindy, a Youth Committee Member believes that preparing young women to enter careers in STEM is a community effort. We agree 🙂
Lorena, a STEMing UP student and Committee Member at hEr VOLUTION believes that numerous young women can benefit from similar opportunities to enter STEM as she did.

It’s not too late to post your #Unselfie photo and it would go a long way in raising awareness about equipping youth with skills and opportunities to embrace STEM careers through hEr VOLUTION.

Let’s keep the #Unselfie momentum going!

It has been an exciting couple of days and we are SO grateful for your support. Your #Unselfies have helped us raise awareness for the next generation of women in STEM. As you know, hEr VOLUTION breaks barriers and provides numerous opportunities for young women who wouldn’t otherwise have access to technology and education that would bring them closer to a career of their choice.

The proverb goes: If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together. We are going far and we will go together, one #Unselfie at the time.

3 weeks to go! Will you be #STEMingUP with us this year?

If you missed our info sessions for the STEMing UP program, no worries, we are pleased to share them with you below.

Some exciting news to know about before you apply:

  • For the first time ever, we will be extending the program for students so that they can work on their projects beyond the program. The program will be divided into 2 phases and the timing is for Phase 1 – July 26, 2021, to August 20, 2021, and for Phase 2 – September 13, 2021, to December 23, 2021
  • The reason why we are doing this is that we heard numerous students asking for an extension to their learning in the program and some have worked on their own to finish their projects for extra learning opportunities. One of our goals has always been to provide participants with the opportunity to extend their skills and work on their projects from the beginning to the end. With that, they will have an extra valuable skill to add to their resume to support their post-secondary education and scholarship applications and when they are ready to start, this will help them with their career journey.
  • What does this mean? The participants will have the opportunity to work beyond the program for a couple of extra months to finalize their projects. Each team from each cohort will be assigned a business challenge and they will engage in a “healthy” competition with each other. At the end of 4 weeks, the challenge partner along with a panel of judges will select the winning solution from each team. That means that the winning solution is selected to be finalized, however, the other team can join and they, too, can work with a team of experts and learn just as much from them.

Before you take the time to check out the sessions, we’d like to remind you that we are here to answer any questions you may have about the application. Please shoot us an email at stemingup@hervolution.org

We can be STEMing UP together!

As with all of our programs, we aim to inspire more young women to get involved in STEM careers, especially those from underserved areas who may not have access to these resources. With that in mind, we developed our STEMing UP Program, to help equip young women with the confidence, skills, professional portfolios and networks to pursue fulfilling careers in the STEM industries.

What is STEMing UP:

*A safe space for young women to learn computer science and decision-making skills
*Project-based assignments in order to develop and produce a portfolio of work
*Mentorship on a portfolio, college application process and/or financial aid
*Information around and exposure to the York University + Shopify Dev Degree Program
*Networking and mentorship opportunities with educators, industry professionals, and employers
*A peer-support network that will build confidence, friendship, and learning momentum

In order to do that, we need industry support. Young women in the past, have voiced that they are really interested in having industry professionals facilitate the sessions to help them get the learning directly from people who do this type of work in their careers. So, to help facilitate that, we decided to be ambitious and have the program facilitated entirely by industry folks as such, we put a call out for volunteer facilitators/speakers to help me out. More
