First, for the ones who are new to the concept, let’s start by discussing what Giving Tuesday is:
GivingTuesday is a global movement for giving and volunteering, taking place each year after Black Friday. The “Opening day of the giving season,” it’s a time when charities, companies, and individuals join together and rally for favourite causes. In the same way that retailers take part in Black Friday, the giving community comes together for GivingTuesday.
GivingTuesday harnesses the potential of social media and the generosity of people around the world to bring about real change in their communities; it provides a platform for them to encourage the donation of time, resources and talents to address local challenges. It also brings together the collective power of a unique blend of partners – nonprofits, civic organizations, businesses and corporations, as well as families and individuals – to encourage and amplify small acts of kindness. Across Canada and around the world, GivingTuesday unites communities by sharing our capacity to care for and empower one another.
Now that we got that out of the way, let’s talk about how hEr VOLUTION will be taking part in Giving Tuesday and how YOU, our valued network can join in.
Last year, we started the #UnSelfie campaign and some of our supporters from various backgrounds have taken pictures sharing why they are supporting hEr VOLUTION.
This year, we want everyone to be part of this campaign with us. We invite you to be part of Giving Tuesday, hEr VOLUTION’s Annual Awareness Campaign for Women in STEM with us and here is how to do it:
- Download and print the hEr VOLUTION #unselfie sheet here
- Write down why YOU support hEr VOLUTION or women in STEM – this can be anyone, all kids (girls, boys) men, women in STEM or women who strive to get into STEM. Even if you haven’t had the chance of supporting hEr VOLUTION so far, we know that deep down you stand for the same cause and that is important too!
- Take a selfie (or ask someone to take a picture of you) holding the sheet you just wrote on (like the examples above)
- Post the picture on social media (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Linked) and use hashtag #Unselfie and #GivingTuesdayCA as well as tag @hEr VOLUTION in all posts on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn – we would love to re-share your posts with our network, because we love you and we are SO proud!
