How the Ambassadors helped develop skills for young women in 2020

After almost eight years, we are always excited to see that our students always come back saying, “I would like to get involved beyond the program, how can I do that?”

The Ambassador Program was born and we welcomed four young women as our first ever Ambassadors.

Together, the Ambassadors raised $616 in support of hEr VOLUTION’s programs. They raised awareness for hEr VOLUTION through the use of social media, assisted with outreach for programs and developed a curriculum plan for the GO!stem Program this year. Additionally, they moderated panels and taught young women how to code.

We are very grateful to WSP for assisting the two Ambassadors, Jada and Khushi, who have excelled in the program with the opportunity to job shadow and be mentored by industry professionals from the company. This will ensure that the two Ambassadors will further develop leadership skills and obtain mentorship support.

The Ambassador Program will continue again with enrollment deadline set for March 1, 2020.

The ambassador program has given me many opportunities to learn about leadership, collaboration and connect with business professionals. I have been able to help with the GO STEM! Program and promote hEr VOLUTION to other organizations. I am very happy to be a part of this program and hope I inspired other girls like me to get into STEM.” Khushi Garg – 2020 hEr VOLUTION Ambassador

What Impact did we make in 2020? #Impact2020 Program Highlights

Youth Board

In 2020, we voted in our Youth Committee Members with a seat at the Board to further develop leadership skills, while amplifying the voices of diverse young women interested in entering STEM fields. We look forward to see more young leaders breaking barriers in our communities and we’ll report more on this in 2021 with positive outcomes.

Ambassador Program

2020 was the inaugural year of the Ambassador Program. Supported by WSP, we welcomed four Ambassadors who worked really hard to raise funds during the #GivingTuesdayNow campaign, trying to outreach during the hard months of COVID-19 and facilitating the GO!stem program alongside professionals from GM and Salesforce Canada.

GO!stem Program

We are very happy to announce the continuous partnership with Salesforce Canada for the 6th year and happy to have welcomed GM Canada for the first time to our popular GO!stem program. Additionally, City of Toronto continues to take a major step forward to support the next generation of girls through the proclamation of hEr VOLUTION’s GO!stem Week.

STEMing UP Program

Despite the challenges this year brought upon us, our STEMing UP program has seen one of the best participations yet. We owe it all to our partners at Shopify, Slack, Citrix Canada and the Government of Canada, who stepped up to support not only with funding, but, with help in pivoting our program to virtual learning.

#Impact21 Word From Our Founder

2020 has been a challenging year indeed and, just like most people around the world, we had to think on our feet and come up with the next steps as we navigated around uncertain and unprecedented times due to COVID-19.

We started the year optimistic for the big goals we were ready to tackle, including our new career fair and #Impact2020 events that we planned to introduce this year. Then, the unexpected happen, a global pandemic that forced us to shut down and shift our focus on what’s important – access to online education and technology in addition to the Black Lives Matter movement (BLM). BLM deserved this attention when everybody had no more excuses but to pay attention to the inequality that BIPOC population faces in the world today.

Although challenging, we realized this year was also the time to learn new things and plan for the organization’s future in a more strategic way. We continued to work with our long-term partners at Shopify, Citrix Canada, Salesforce and Humber College, and welcomed new partners from Slack, MongoDB, Konrad, Alexio Corporation and GM Canada. Due to the global pandemic with keeping everyone’s safety in mind, our programs were delivered online and, as an added benefit, were able to welcome more students from across Ontario. More
