Graphic Designer Volunteer Position

hEr VOLUTION, a nonprofit organization working on access to innovative education and employment services to girls and young women in STEM, is seeking a Graphic Designer with an eye for the original and a fresh-take on ideas. The Graphic Designer volunteer position is intended to provide support to hEr VOLUTION’s team members in the area of design and promotions. The graphic design work greatly helps hEr VOLUTION reach our goals in raising awareness and value placed on STEM education for girls and young women in Canada. This position would be ideal for a volunteer looking to put design skills to use in a social & educational context.

About hEr VOLUTION Our mission: hEr VOLUTION encourages girls and young women to pursue STEM based careers and promotes stakeholder’s involvement in the support of STEM education in Canada. Our vision: To raise awareness and value placed on STEM education for girls and young women in Canada.

Based in Toronto, Canada, hEr VOLUTION is the go to place for girls and young women from low income households and underprivileged communities throughout Canada to come to in order to provide them with innovative workshops and support around 21st Century Skills. From here we work hand in hand with local government to create opportunities for the next generation of women in STEM to further connect them with leaders in the industry for career support. We do this by listening to the needs of the community and the industry while giving all the resources back to the general public in a language that everyone understands.

  We need you to:

* Create various designs that are flexible to use in multiple media.

* Design clear engaging graphic communications for print and web. This will include logos, direct mail pieces, branded promotional items, web site and social media graphics, posters, flyers, and other marketing materials as needed.

* Work closely with a project team and volunteers to translate their messaging concepts into marketing materials.


* Be proficient in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, & Photoshop and/or other common design and layout applications * Having a computer and access to graphic design and layout software is an asset * Must be extremely organized and detail oriented * Must have excellent time management skills * Must have ability to work independently as well as in partnership with team * Must be able to define and work to deadlines

This position provides valuable experience in the non-profit sector or in the STEM fields and the opportunity to develop a portfolio related to graphic design and visual arts. The chosen candidate will be required to invest a minimum of 10-20 hours per month. A trial period of successful 3 months will be required for a letter of reference to be issued.
