As people around the world celebrated International Women’s Day this week, the issue of equality for women was front and centre. Canada’s theme for IWD this year was “Equality Matters.” The point from this theme is that gender equality indeed matters for Canada — it is a crucial element that must be achieved to support our economy, our democracy, and our future.
A common message was conveyed throughout Canada and the world this week — getting more women in STEM fields is a major component of reaching gender equality.
Always promoting that message, hEr VOLUTION completed the fourth week of the 150 Days of Canadian Women in STEM campaign. This week, we showcased six women whose achievements in STEM are varied and vast, offering just several examples of the many ways that girls and women can transform their interests into impactful careers. We introduced young women who are just starting to make their mark in STEM, and women from Canada’s past whose efforts helped to pave the way.
